DIY

When I got a new webcam (Anker PowerConf C200) the standard way of mounting it was to balance it on top of my pen display. This did not work well. With XOOT_Pro, changing the screen’s tilt or rotation caused the camera to fall off. The third time the camera fell off, I committed myself to solving the problem.

Design Goals:

  • Mount a web cam on the standard ¼ inch thread (common for photography equipment).
  • Ensure the camera does not get in the way when tilting or rotating the screen.
  • The camera’s tilt should follow the tilt of the screen.
  • Parts should be 3D printable or be easily available.

It took 7 design iterations, but I finally got something that works well.

Here’s how it works.  Each XOOT_Pro has a part that pivots the screen.  This part looks a little different with each kit, but the webcam holder is meant to work with all of XOOT Kits.  Below I show a Cintiq Pro 32 Kit.

The webcam holder slides into the top of this part.

The design has two arms that can attach to a central holder.

Only one arm is needed. Only print the side you want to place the webcam on.

There are two arm options:

Sample Materials:

Assembly

  • Download STL files from here:
  • Print files.  The shapes should be printable without using supports.
  • Glue Nut into Arm
    • My nut hole deformed when printed. I used a little heat on the plastic to help press Nut into place.
  • Screw in threaded rod
  • Screw Arm into Mount
  • Place Mount into arm.
  • Screw second Nut on Rod.
  • Skrew in camera onto Rod.  Snug up the nut to keep the camera from moving.
  • Attach the cable to camera and route the cable through the anti-tople arms.

The camera follows screen tilt

The camera does not interfere with screen rotation (but the screen will block it’s view)

If you need to make modifications to fit your camera.  I’ve included the STEP files and the Fusion360 design files here.
